Erick Poteat, Executive Chef

Famous old-school Philadelphia restaurants – Les Amis, Café Borelli, Frankie’s Tratorria, Fratellli, Zanzibar Blue,
Warm Daddy’s, to name a few -- were touched by Erick Poteat, during his long and varied career, creating kitchen magic.

Since 1973, when Erick career in classic French cuisine cooking began at Les Amis restaurant, he worked with well renowned, highly skilled and respected chefs, most notably, Georges Perrier, Chef Michael Scott, Vickie Renseen, Arnold Soren and the Rago Family.

Erick’s kitchen repertoire ranges from French to classic continental to Sicilian, having learned from the cream of the crop on the Philadelphia restaurant cutting edge.

After detouring to Bucks County to serve as executive chef at the Yardley Inn, Erick realized that the Center City restaurant scene is a must and a calling.

Erick returned to Philadelphia to work at Illuminare, first as chef and now as executive chef.

According to City Search in 2007, Illuminare is a neighborhood favorite in Fairmount – featuring good food, attentive service and talented Chefs. At Illuminare, there is something for everyone’s taste on the menu.

Asked about his favorite food, Erick muses, “I would say Italian and French—fusing the two cuisines together. But to really answer the question, I would have to say my favorite food…is what I have yet to create for YOU!”

Therefore, we hope you come to Illuminare and indulge your appetite in this unique and pleasant dining experience.

Troops eat free at Illuminare

Illuminare’s Brick Oven Pizza & Italian Restaurant, located at 2321 Fairmount Avenue, will be reaching out and thanking the United States Military by serving free pizza to customers that belong to any of the armed services.

Beginning immediately, any active member of the Marines, Army, or Navy can enjoy free pizza just by showing his or her Military identification card.

The special includes one of Illuminare’s 12-inch individual brick oven margherita pizzas absolutely for free, with the exception of a tip to the server.

The restaurant’s margherita pizza, which consists of fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil, was voted one of the best in Philadelphia.

The idea came to one of the Illuminare owners, Brian Augustine, when he and his family took a took of the U.S.S. Winston Churchill Naval Ship which was docked at Penn’s Landing last weekend for tours.

After the tour, Augustine realized the importance of the military and decided that he wanted to find a way to thank them for their behind the scenes work, which the common person may not pay much attention to on a daily basis.

Augustine, says, “Unless you have a family member in the military, you basically go about your day to day life without thinking about the work that the armed forces do. I wanted to send an invitation just to say thank you.

The restaurant is also honoring members of the military by hanging flags that represent each of the armed forces.

Augustine says that as “a way to thank you for their level of commitment”, he and his partners invite any and all members of the armed services to dine in at Illuminare and enjoy their renowned brick oven pizza.
